I just got laid off an hour ago from my job at a family-owned outdoor product warehouse where I worked for about 11 months. I was recently promoted to order overseer just three weeks ago, and I thought I was doing really well. I was looking forward to a potential raise, but instead, I was blindsided when my boss called me in and laid me off. I thanked him, packed my things, and left while my coworkers were in shock, some even followed me out to my truck. I kept my composure and simply told them I had been laid off. At 20 years old, I've also been an EMT for the last two years. After undergoing abdominal surgery a year ago, I took this warehouse job to make ends meet. I even bought a 2019 Toyota Tacoma in February and have been working hard to pay it off. Right now, I have a two-month emergency fund and about $1,800 in cash. This job helped me realize that my true passion lies in nursing, and I had just signed up for night school starting on the 19th. I had kept this a secret until today when I shared my excitement with a close coworker who is not my boss. I’m now questioning whether my plans for education influenced my layoff, and I’m feeling really lost. I don’t want to pursue any legal action or unemployment; I just want to work and loved this place. If anyone has been through something similar, I would really appreciate some advice.
