After five months of searching for a job, I finally received an offer from a large, well-known company located in a prominent building in NYC. However, I ultimately decided to turn it down. The interview process felt off from the start; during my first interview, they barely asked me any questions, and the onsite interview was even less traditional. I spent most of my time being given a tour, meeting the team, and observing their processes. While shadowing an employee, I discovered that she had only been with the company for five weeks, another employee was leaving after just 90 days, and the previous person in the role had lasted only a month. It was clear that their processes were disorganized, and the team seemed overwhelmed with their workload. They mentioned that the position would require working long hours, roughly from 6 AM to 5 PM, "for the time being" as they were trying to streamline operations. They offered me the job about an hour after the interview, but I declined because the high turnover rate, disorganization, and the prospect of extremely long hours raised serious concerns about the company's stability and my ability to build a long-term career there. Since then, the hiring manager has reached out to me three times, trying to persuade me to reconsider, despite my polite explanations of my concerns. His persistence only makes me feel more uncomfortable, as it seems they were desperate to fill the position. Now, I'm back to job searching after five months and I'm starting to question whether I made the right decision by turning down the offer.
