I was laid off again yesterday from a small wealth management firm after only a few months. This is my second layoff this year due to company restructuring. The owner had just gone solo after parting ways with his business partner and clearly overstaffed the team without thinking it through. Every day was chaotic, but I was well-liked and my contributions were impactful. I had graduated with honors in my MBA program and had fixed many issues within the firm. However, I was told there was too much overlap in roles, and my work could be redistributed among the already overworked staff. Earlier this year in March, I was planning to leave a terrible job at another wealth management company. I had to disable access for four employees in just seven months, and I was aware of many others who left or were terminated. The company failed to meet its obligations for employment and health insurance, and I was stretched across three departments with weekends becoming the norm, all for a salary of $65k. On the day I was about to quit, they closed my position. I was constantly pulled into different divisions to handle crises caused by poor performance from others. I even worked through a broken right hand, as they refused to hire additional help. My six-month review was great, but I had to chase down my supervisors for it because they were too busy to focus on anything other than their own tasks. I’m feeling frustrated and disillusioned with the corporate world. I hate being stuck in this field and dealing with employers who disregard the hard work of dedicated employees. It feels like they only care about squeezing profits for themselves. I’m seriously considering whether I want to return to corporate life at all. It seems like no matter how hard I try, I end up in the same toxic situations. I'm losing faith that there are jobs out there where people are actually happy.
