I was laid off a few months ago due to corporate restructuring at my previous company. My team had 14 members, and 6 of us were let go, including me. I had been dealing with a particularly difficult employee who was spreading negativity about me and others, which I believe contributed to the layoffs. Although I collected my severance and feel relieved to be out of that toxic environment, I've learned that the situation has only worsened since my departure. The problematic employee, whom I refer to as IE, seemed pleased with the outcome and even influenced some remaining team members to question the workplace culture. However, the team is now dwindling, with only 4 people left. IE, his direct report, and two others who are actively seeking new jobs. Interestingly, even IE's closest ally has decided to leave. IE always acted as if he knew better than everyone else, claiming he could deliver work faster and cheaper without any real experience. He often complained but struggled to provide actionable solutions. We tried to mentor him, but it seems he relied on us too much. Now that I'm gone, he has no support, and his projects are falling behind. I'm enjoying watching the chaos unfold while sipping margaritas, knowing that the toxic culture he fostered is finally catching up to him.
