I've been struggling with writing cover letters for job applications. It seems like there are so many conflicting expectations out there. Some advice suggests I should express my excitement about the job, but honestly, I'm not always excited—often, I'm just looking for better pay and benefits. Other tips say I should include specific metrics to showcase my achievements, but my current role doesn't really lend itself to that kind of quantifiable success. I'm just doing my job to the best of my ability. I'm left wondering if hiring managers even care about cover letters anymore. Do they really want to see a personal pitch or a connection to the job description? Or are they mostly skimming through them? It feels overwhelming trying to figure out the 'rules' for something that seems to vary so much from one position to another.
