  1. 1

I recently accepted a new job after working at a small veterinary clinic, and I can't shake the feeling that I was undervalued there. My hours were consistently cut, but the most frustrating part was how my boss would finalize the schedule and then ask if I was "okay with it"—it felt like my opinion didn’t matter at all. There was also a moment when the owner asked my manager what my name was while I was right there. It made me feel invisible, especially since I had been working there for some time. Communication was often lacking; coworkers would give clients conflicting information, which led to awkward situations. Expectations were unclear, and I felt overwhelmed with additional tasks unrelated to my role without any increase in pay. I noticed favoritism among employees, with some getting full-time hours while I and others were barely getting part-time. To add to that, after my mom passed away a few months ago, my hours were still cut, which felt particularly insensitive. The clinic didn’t offer any benefits or PTO, and over time, it became clear that I didn’t feel valued. It wasn’t just one incident but a buildup of smaller issues that led me to seek a new opportunity. I don’t think my employer is a bad person; I just wanted to see if others have felt similarly and would have started looking for a new job too.
