I recently made a job switch from one bulge bracket bank to another, motivated by a $23k pay increase and a step up in seniority. However, just four months into this new role, I'm seriously contemplating going back to my old employer, and I'm starting to wonder if I'm making a mistake. The transition has been anything but smooth. I walked into a chaotic and toxic environment where one of the major clients I manage was completely blindsided by the change in management. They only learned about it during a call, which has left me in a tough spot. The person I replaced had built a solid relationship with this client, and both the client and my new team seem to prefer them over me. To add to the pressure, I've been assigned another client to manage, which has significantly increased my workload. It feels like I'm fighting an uphill battle without the proper support or transition, and the atmosphere at work is quite negative. On top of all this, I'm dealing with some family health issues that are weighing heavily on me. The combination of work stress and personal challenges is starting to take a toll on my mental and physical well-being. I reached out to my previous employer, where I had a good reputation and a more manageable work environment, and they are open to discussing my return. Now I'm torn between the idea of going back after such a short time, which feels like admitting defeat, and the realization that my health and happiness should come first. Has anyone else returned to a previous employer after a brief stint elsewhere? I would love to hear your experiences, especially if you've been in a similar situation in banking or financial services.
