I recently applied for a job that involves using a language I’ve been learning for about three years. The application process requires me to take a test, which has been quite challenging for me, especially with some complex grammar questions. The test is timed, and I find myself struggling to keep up, often running out of time. In a moment of frustration, I even closed the tab and reopened the test link, hoping they wouldn’t notice. The position would primarily involve writing casual content, with some speaking required, and my manager would be a native speaker. Currently, I’m working as a contractor, which gives me a lot of flexibility, but I’m looking for a full-time role to help me move out from my relatives' home, as they can be quite mean and inconsiderate. Now, I’m at a crossroads. I’m unsure whether to continue with the test, even if I might fail it, or if I should reach out to the recruiter to explain my situation. I’ve thought about saying that I’ve accepted another job offer, which seems to be a common excuse for candidates who choose to withdraw. I really like this local company and don’t want to leave a bad impression, but I also don’t want to waste anyone’s time.
