I’m a 33-year-old who has faced an incredibly tough 20 months. It all started in January 2025 when I lost ₹3 lakh to a travel-membership scam. That same month, my father-in-law was diagnosed with cancer and underwent major surgery. Just two months later, my father passed away suddenly after battling illness for years, and I had to handle all the funeral arrangements myself. In April, my father-in-law suffered a heart attack during another surgery but thankfully survived. May brought more grief with the passing of my grandmother from cancer. By September, my wife had moved to Mumbai for a new job, leaving me alone in Bengaluru. I was thriving at a healthcare startup, being a top performer with two promotions in three years, and I was expecting another one in December. But in November, instead of that promotion, I was laid off and faced garden leave until January 1, 2026. In December, I moved to Mumbai to be with my wife. Since January 2026, I’ve been applying for jobs everywhere, chasing referrals, and going through multiple interview rounds. I even had to create detailed business proposals and presentations for some companies, only to be ghosted without any feedback. As time went on, my friends stopped reaching out, I started gaining weight, and my confidence took a nosedive. In April 2026, I tried to escape through football, which has always been my outlet, but I ended up tearing my MCL after just two games. Through all this, my wife has been my rock, supporting me every day and trying to keep my spirits up. It feels like every time I find a glimmer of happiness, it gets snatched away. I had a solid eight-year career, and now I feel completely stuck. Has anyone else gone through such a prolonged rough patch? How did you rebuild your confidence and find your way back?
