I got laid off on Wednesday from my job at a TV station, and I’m still in total shock. I had no idea this was coming after almost two years of employment. My station had a contract with a sister station that was supposed to bring in more work, and I was hired based on that. However, I found out this week that the sister station can’t afford to renew the contract due to financial losses, which means I can no longer be paid. I’m really freaking out about how I’m going to manage my bills and medical expenses because there was absolutely no warning. I had no performance issues, attendance problems, or disciplinary actions against me, and I was well-liked at my job. I’m based in Atlanta and feeling very uncertain about my next steps.
