I’ve been unemployed from the tech industry for a year now, and I’m starting to wonder if it’s still possible to get hired. I’m a 27-year-old female who has had quite a challenging journey with my jobs since graduating from college. I started with a year-long role as a Customer Success Manager, then transitioned to a contract position in a field I was more passionate about, which offered better pay. After that, I spent a year at another tech company, but they went bankrupt. My most recent role was as an Account Executive at a tech company, where I was laid off after just six months. Since then, I’ve been working part-time in retail but have been struggling to secure full-time positions in my field. I’ve optimized my resume for ATS and shifted my focus to applying for Account Manager roles, which I prefer. I’ve managed to get screening calls for several positions, but I find it difficult to progress past the second interview stage. I’m really concerned about the gap in my employment and the relatively short durations of my previous roles. I haven’t included my part-time retail job on my resume because it doesn’t relate to my desired career path. I’m also contemplating whether I want to stay in tech or explore other industries, but I’m unsure how to present my skills in a way that would be appealing outside of tech. Any advice on whether it’s still possible for me to get hired and how to navigate this situation would be greatly appreciated.
