I've been working at my current job for six months now, and it's been a rough experience. The company doesn't allow us to take lunch breaks or use PTO, which has led to serious burnout. I'm actively looking for a new job because I can't handle the stress anymore. Unfortunately, the job market seems limited; most of the listings I find are either part-time fast food positions, marketing scams, or roles I'm not qualified for. I just want a job that covers my rent and bills without making me dread each day. My state doesn't require lunch breaks, and management is indifferent to our needs. We’re often understaffed, so taking a break is nearly impossible. The PTO policy is frustrating too; we earn a decent amount but can only cash it out every four months instead of using it for time off. We're even prohibited from using it for sick days or unplanned absences. I genuinely enjoy the work I do, but the way the organization treats us is demoralizing. My managers are unapproachable, and I'm constantly overworked. While the pay is decent—enough that I don't have to worry about my grocery bills—it's not worth the toll it's taking on my mental health. I feel exhausted even outside of work and struggle to engage in my hobbies. At 27, I feel pressure from my mom who thinks I'm just complaining too much. She believes that if work was enjoyable, it wouldn't be paid. I’ve been trying to go back to school for the past six years, but balancing that with a full-time job feels impossible, making me feel inadequate. I just don't understand how others manage to juggle everything.
