Today was a tough day at work. I’ve been with my company for almost three years in a role where I’ve taken on extra responsibilities and consistently received "exceeds expectations" on my reviews. Recently, I asked my director for an 8% salary adjustment to keep up with inflation, but he explained that budgets are frozen until 2027 and that we all need to make sacrifices. I felt guilty for even asking. While onboarding a new junior hire today, I accidentally saw his offer letter on his screen. To my shock, his base salary is $16,000 higher than mine, and he has no prior industry experience. I felt completely humiliated as I realized I was training someone who is now earning more than I do. I’ve dedicated so much time and effort to this company, often working late and skipping lunches, only to find out they’ve been dishonest about salary adjustments. I’m sitting in the bathroom stall right now, shaking and unsure how to finish the workday. This experience has made me question my worth and loyalty to this company. I know I need to start looking for a new job where my contributions will be valued.
