I recently received a job offer that has me torn. I currently work in a construction-related role, earning about $110K a year, with a fantastic work-life balance of only 20-30 hours a week. I live in a very high cost of living area, where I have a strong social network and plenty of time to enjoy my hobbies. I’m in my early 30s, single, and have saved around $350K for retirement without owning property or having kids. The new offer is quite tempting, as it comes with a salary of $240K a year and a company truck, but it requires me to relocate to a remote area and work 50-60 hours a week. They mentioned that I could take two months off each year, but I wouldn’t be paid during that time. I shared this news with my friends, and they seemed sad about my potential move. I wasn’t actively looking for a new job; a friend reached out to me because there’s a huge demand for my skills right now. I’m grappling with whether to take this offer, as it would mean sacrificing my current lifestyle, which I genuinely love, for a significant pay increase but at the cost of my free time and social life. What would you do in my situation?
