I recently received a job offer for a position titled "AI Product and Growth Specialist." After struggling to find work for a while, I was relieved to finally get an offer, but I'm facing some concerns. The role is part-time, 20 hours a week, and pays $30 per hour, but it's a 1099 position, which means no benefits. During the interview, I learned that the job would involve building web services and also cold calling to close deals. However, the contract has some red flags. It states there are no guaranteed working hours, and the commission structure is quite disappointing—only $20 per sale, regardless of whether it's a $200 monthly plan or a $2000 annual plan. I reached out to the employer to express my concerns about the lack of incentive for selling higher-value plans and the vague working hours. His response was that the commission would remain the same because they need ongoing revenue to support service delivery, which seems unreasonable given the nature of the services offered. He did mention that he could update the contract to reflect the expected 20 hours based on current needs, but I’m still left wondering about the necessity of having him involved if I’m doing all the prospecting, closing, and service delivery myself. I'm in a tough financial spot and don't have much to invest in my own business right now. I'm torn between accepting this offer out of desperation or continuing my job search for something better. Should I take this job or keep looking?
