I recently received a job offer and began the background check process, which I thought would be straightforward since I had done one for my current job just a few months ago. However, I ran into issues because I've changed my name twice in my life—once after getting married and once after transitioning. I provided the new company with all my previous names and addresses, but the background check couldn't verify my information. The hiring company contacted me, worried that I might have made a mistake with my social security number or birthday. I called the background check company and confirmed that my details were correct. They mentioned it’s possible that the credit bureau just doesn't have a file on me under my current name. To investigate further, I ran my own check through Experian and found nothing under my current name, but I did see information under my previous name. Now I'm really worried—will this prevent me from getting hired? I have all the necessary documentation to prove my identity and name changes, but I'm not sure what steps to take next to resolve this issue. I really need this job and don't want to lose this opportunity over a name change.
