Today, I focused on helping my wife navigate her job search after she was impacted by a company restructuring. She's in her late 20s/early 30s and has a solid background in operations, project coordination, client support, data analysis, and process improvement. We've been looking for roles like Project Coordinator, HR Shared Services, Customer Success, Clinical Operations, and Operations Analyst. Instead of just submitting online applications, which feel like a black hole, I've started researching networking groups in the Milwaukee area. I've come across organizations like TEMPO, FUEL, PMI, and various chambers of commerce. However, I'm trying to figure out which of these groups actually lead to valuable connections rather than just social gatherings. I reached out to some women who have successfully changed jobs through networking to gather insights. I asked about their experiences with different organizations, any recurring events that were particularly beneficial, and where they found the most meaningful connections—whether through professional associations, volunteer work, LinkedIn, or alumni groups. One piece of advice that resonated with me was to reach out directly to people on LinkedIn who hold positions she aspires to. It seems that initiating a brief conversation can lead to referrals or insider information about job openings. As we continue this journey, I'm eager to learn more from others who have built their professional networks during the early to mid-career stages, especially in fields like healthcare, life sciences, manufacturing, HR, operations, project management, or corporate business roles. I'm hopeful that with the right connections and strategies, my wife will find a fulfilling opportunity soon.
