Today was supposed to be my first day in a new role with a significant pay raise and guaranteed hours, but it turned into a complete disaster. My organization had an event last night that ran late, and when I got home around midnight, I thought everything would be fine for today. However, a group of my coworkers decided to call out this morning, claiming they were too exhausted to work. I honestly thought it was a joke, but it turned out to be real. During our mandatory five-week training class, which I cannot miss or I lose my promotion, we were constantly interrupted by requests for coverage because the floor staff had all called out. I was frustrated but held my ground, knowing how important this training was for my career. Around noon, our trainer was pulled out for a discussion with our manager, who later came in to inform us that two of the three scheduled events had been canceled due to staffing issues. They pointed at me and another trainee and told us to follow her to fill in for the event that couldn't be canceled. We argued that we couldn't miss the training, but the compromise offered was that we could take the next class in August and would have to return to our old roles until then. So, just like that, my promotion and pay raise are gone. I'm beyond livid right now. It's almost comical how ridiculous the whole situation is, and I can't help but feel resentment toward my coworkers and this company. I could have had the day off today, and instead, I'm stuck in this mess. Lesson learned: never give your all at work.
