I recently faced a major setback in my job search for my dream position with the City of X in Canada. Back in 2025, I applied for several jobs there but was never selected. In my naivety, I used different resumes for these applications, altering job titles and dates, thinking it was just a harmless way to apply for fun. Fast forward to this year, after finally obtaining the necessary certifications, I applied again, only to find out that my application was flagged for inconsistencies. The Senior HR representative reached out to me, asking if I could substantiate the discrepancies in my resumes. I realized she was aware of my past mistakes, so I came clean and provided my actual job letters and roles, hoping for some understanding. Unfortunately, my honesty didn't pay off; I was rejected and barred from future applications, with the HR department emphasizing the importance of truthfulness. I reached out again to inquire about an appeal process, but the Head of HR confirmed that the ban is permanent. It's incredibly disheartening, especially since this was my dream job with good pay. I'm now worried about similar issues with other government jobs I've applied for in the past, as I used different resumes for those as well. I'm seeking advice on whether my previous applications will affect my future chances and if there's any way to move forward from this situation. Should I create a new profile or just wait it out? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
