I was recently fired from a seasonal job I took on while on academic leave from my role at a large retail store. I graduated from university about four months ago and was hoping to gain some experience to help me transition into a better position. Unfortunately, I lost that job before I could meet the requirements of the grant that was funding it. Now, I’m set to return to my retail job in two weeks, but I just received a call saying that I will have to accept a lower pay than my coworkers while taking on more responsibilities. The management at this retail store has been really difficult to deal with, and I’ve felt bullied and overworked by them. I was considering applying for unemployment benefits, but now I’m unsure if I would be eligible if I choose not to go back. I’ve started applying for full-time jobs in Michigan, but the job market seems pretty tough right now. This whole experience has taken a toll on my mental health, and I’m really struggling with the idea of going back to that environment. I’m feeling lost and unsure about what my next steps should be.
