  1. 1

Today, I received an email from my company announcing that starting October 1st, everyone is required to return to the office at least three days a week. This is particularly frustrating because just last month, they sold our main office building. For the past two years, we’ve been fully remote, and it has been working well—productivity is up, and team morale is decent. Now, we’re expected to commute over an hour to what I suspect will be a temporary shared workspace, but they haven’t even disclosed its location yet. I live in a different county than most of my team, and we all relocated to be closer to family, believing we were fully remote for the long haul. This feels like a passive-aggressive tactic to push people out without having to lay anyone off. I just bought a house here, and going from a zero-minute commute to two hours daily is going to be a massive adjustment. Has anyone else experienced this kind of bait and switch?
