Today, I was terminated from my role as a Junior Designer at a company where I initially joined as a UI/UX Design Intern in mid-November. I was given a month of notice, but I'm left feeling a mix of emotions—mostly anger and confusion. I had hoped to transition into a full-time position after my internship, which was extended for a month for performance evaluation. In April, I was moved to a Designer Trainee role, and by May, I was working as a full-time Junior Designer. However, after just two months in that role, they let me go, citing performance issues. The job wasn't what I expected. I started with the intention of focusing on UI/UX design for apps and websites, but my responsibilities shifted significantly. I ended up creating social media posts, writing AI-assisted blogs, and making PowerPoint presentations, which felt far removed from my original role. Now, I'm facing the daunting task of job hunting again. I'm also unsure how to handle any follow-up calls from my manager, HR, or even the founder regarding my termination. I want to remain calm and professional during those conversations, but I also want to ask important questions without sounding defensive or upset. This is my first experience with being let go, and I could really use some advice on how to navigate this situation.
