PM_ME_THEM_BOOBIES's journey

This week, I received the unfortunate news that I will be laid off from my UX research position at a small company where I've worked for the past 7 years. The company, which has around 200 employees, has been struggling financially for quite some time, losing clients and failing to bring in new business. As a result, they are letting go of about 40 employees, which is roughly 20% of the workforce. While I am grateful that they are offering a severance package, I am unsure of the amount and how to approach my exit interview with HR. I’m seeking advice on how to negotiate my severance, considering the company's dire financial situation. I realize I might not have much leverage, but I plan to present my case professionally, highlighting my good performance over the years and the challenging job market. I hope that by doing so, I can make a compelling argument for a better severance package.
