I recently went through a frustrating experience while interviewing for a position in asset management. After four interviews, I was unexpectedly asked to participate in a fifth interview with the CEO. I felt confident, especially since the previous interviewers had given positive feedback. However, five days later, the recruiter called to inform me that the CEO had ultimately decided against hiring me. His reasoning? He thought I was 'too ambitious' and preferred to handle tasks independently rather than relying on support. I was completely taken aback. At 30 years old, I believe ambition is a valuable trait, especially in a competitive field like asset management. The recruiter was just as surprised as I was, noting that my skills and experience were well-received by the other interviewers. It’s disheartening to think that my desire to advance in my career might have been seen as a negative. I’ve never been turned down for a job after an interview in over a decade of working, so this experience has left me feeling confused and frustrated. Thanks for letting me vent.
