I have a Teams meeting scheduled for Monday at 10:30 AM titled "Project Name Leadership Update." The invite includes me, a developer, my manager, the department director, and HR. I've been with the company for 9 years, and while the business is profitable, I've been through reorganizations before, but HR has never been in those meetings. Interestingly, both of us on the team are the only full-time employees, while the rest are contractors. I noticed that HR was optional on the invite, but they accepted it, which feels concerning. To add to the oddity, we just hired a new full-time developer who starts next week, and another contractor is joining on Monday. I’m trying to prepare myself for the worst, as the short notice and HR's presence seem like red flags. I’ve seen enough layoffs to know that this could be a sign. I plan to ask about how long my health coverage will last, inquire about severance packages, and check my contract for any non-compete clauses. I’ll also identify who I can ask for references if needed. I’ll update on what happens after the meeting.
