I recently faced a tough situation in my career in healthcare. I worked at a clinic where I tried to report serious HIPAA violations and issues like inaccurate timecards. After bringing these concerns to HR, I found that my clean record was being manipulated, and I was ultimately fired. Despite this, I managed to secure a new job at a similar urgent care facility, which I thought would be a fresh start. I passed all onboarding quickly since I was already familiar with the EHR system. However, after just a month, I was called into a meeting and told I was being let go. The reason? My coworkers felt uncomfortable approaching me, despite sharing their personal lives with me daily. I was accused of not following workflows, but the truth was that there was no clear workflow in place. I asked for specific examples of my supposed mistakes, but none were provided. It was disheartening to see my colleagues clocking in late, taking long breaks, and not adhering to the dress code while I was consistently punctual and ready to work. I was often the only one present, even opening and closing the clinic on my own. Now, I’m left without a job for the second time in six months, and I’m struggling with the financial implications. I fear losing my apartment and car, and I'm worried about my health insurance expiring soon. This experience has left me feeling disillusioned about the healthcare industry, and I’m contemplating a complete career change, though I’m uncertain about what direction to take next. All I want is to find stable work and manage my bills.
