  1. 1

I recently got laid off and now I'm facing the daunting task of searching for a new job, especially as we approach the holiday season when hiring tends to slow down. It's frustrating to hear that the unemployment rate is so low at 3%, yet many people, including myself, are experiencing incredibly long job searches, averaging around 6.8 months. I'm 50 years old, and I can't help but wonder if this struggle is more pronounced for older workers or specific industries. It feels like there's a disconnect between the macroeconomic reports and the reality on the ground. I've heard stories of people searching for over a year or having to accept jobs that pay less than half of what they used to earn just to make ends meet. While the statistics may look good on paper, the experiences of those of us in the job market tell a different story.
