I recently went through a rigorous three-round interview process for a client-facing role at a company I was really excited about. After feeling positive about my interviews, I received a call from the Director two weeks later, which I thought was a good sign—maybe an offer or some final questions. However, she informed me that my candidacy had been flagged by HR due to an issue with my online portfolio. I had anonymized my work samples, but one slipped through the cracks. During our conversation, I took full responsibility for the oversight and explained that I didn’t vet my work thoroughly enough before posting it. The Director expressed concern about the potential implications of sharing internal information, which I completely understand given the nature of the role. After our call, I promptly removed my portfolio and decided to be cautious moving forward, opting to send work samples only upon request and ensuring they are fully anonymized. I was told that she would discuss my situation with the team and get back to me soon. I can't shake the feeling that this mistake might make me seem unethical in their eyes, and I worry that I may have jeopardized my chances for the position. I’m left wondering if there’s still a chance for an offer or if this will be the deciding factor against me.
