I recently accepted an interim role at a community college, where I was handpicked by the registrar to fill a position that became vacant in early September. After a month of waiting for an official offer from HR, I finally received it yesterday. However, I'm feeling quite frustrated with the proposed salary of $48,007, which is the minimum for grade 6. This feels disrespectful to me, especially since there are other positions at the same pay grade that only require a high school diploma. My new role demands a bachelor's degree and five years of experience in higher education, so it seems unfair that I'd earn the same as someone in a less demanding position. The raise I would get from moving up a pay grade is just $1.26 per hour, which feels inadequate. I tried to negotiate with HR after receiving the offer, but the registrar didn't seem open to discussing salary adjustments. I reached out to the HR compensation department before leaving work, but since it's the weekend, I won't hear back until next week. I'm at a crossroads; while this role offers a chance to network and potentially advance my career, I'm also feeling disheartened by the salary offer. I'm seeking advice on whether to accept the position or hold out for something more competitive.
