Today I had one of the most challenging experiences during a job interview for a claims handler position at an insurance company. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Law just this month and have been actively searching for my first serious role in the legal field. Unfortunately, I’ve faced seven rejections already, so I was determined to prepare thoroughly for this interview and felt confident going in. The interview lasted about an hour, but it felt very strange from the start. They began with the typical, 'Tell me about yourself,' which I answered, but then they kept asking me to elaborate on that same question multiple times. It made me feel insecure, as if I must be giving the wrong answers. I tried to provide more details about my work background, but they continued to press for more information about myself. At one point, I became overwhelmed and started crying, convinced that I was failing the interview because of their repetitive questioning. Despite the emotional moment, we continued our discussion, and the managing director ended the interview on a positive note, stating they would consider me and get back to me next week. As I was leaving, the HR representative told me to try not to overthink it, which only made me cry again because I felt embarrassed. I thanked them and hurried to my car to have a moment alone. To my surprise, about an hour later, the HR representative called to check if I got home safely and informed me that they would like to invite me back for a second interview. She mentioned that I had asked good questions and demonstrated a clear understanding of the role, which was unexpected given how the interview had gone. I’m still trying to process the whole experience, especially since they mentioned wanting to get to know me better and that they don’t use standard interview questions. It was quite challenging for me, and I’m curious if anyone else has had a similar experience during an interview.
