I recently started a new job that I was really excited about. The hours fit perfectly with my school schedule, and the pay was decent. On my first day, I was supposed to train with a guy who had been with the company for a while, and everyone said he was great. However, things took a turn for the worse quickly. He started making inappropriate comments about my generation, discussing personal topics in a way that made me extremely uncomfortable. He joked about things that should never be joked about in a professional setting, and he kept invading my personal space, poking me and making comments about my appearance. Despite feeling uneasy, I tried to laugh it off, but his behavior escalated. He asked me personal questions about my dating life, suggested we go out for dinner, and even made a weird comment about my drink when I left it unattended. I knew I had to report this to HR, especially since I felt physically threatened. When I did, HR seemed to downplay the situation, suggesting I could handle it myself or they could write him up. I chose to let them handle it, and they removed me from the days he was scheduled to work. However, this messed up the schedule significantly, and I was left with fewer hours than I needed. I approached my boss to discuss this, but she was dismissive and rolled her eyes at me. I feel so disheartened because I was genuinely excited about this job, and now I feel like I made a mistake by reporting the behavior. I'm at a loss for what to do next.
