    Feeling Got a Job Planning Thinking

    I recently started a new job as a software engineer just over a month ago, but I'm already contemplating looking for other opportunities due to the poor work-life balance. My team is distributed globally, and my manager is 15 hours ahead of me, which has led to some awkward scheduling. I have a daily meeting at 8:30 AM my time, and he often wants to sync up again around 5:30 PM, which cuts into my evening. Today, I was pulled into an urgent meeting from 10:00 to 11:00 PM my time, which really pushed my limits. I understand the need for flexibility during critical issues, but this constant juggling is starting to feel overwhelming, especially since my wife and I are also preparing to move to a new apartment. I'm worried about burnout and how to explain my reasons for leaving if I start interviewing elsewhere. I want to be honest without sounding negative, but I’m unsure how to frame my situation.

    I recently started a new job as a sustaining software engineer at a global company, and I'm already feeling the pressure of stress and potential burnout. My team is spread out across different time zones, and I'm based on the west coast of the US while my manager is in Taiwan. In my first week, I had daily meetings at 5:30 PM my time, which often ran until 6:30 or 7:00 PM. After some initial training in Taiwan, my manager moved our daily meetings to 8:30 AM my time, which I appreciated. However, I've now found myself with back-to-back 5:30 PM meetings with another coworker for a project I'm working on, and just yesterday, that meeting stretched until about 7:30 PM. This has been frustrating, especially since it disrupted dinner plans with my wife. I really value having a work-life balance and don't want to be the person who is too consumed by work to spend quality time with my family. I’m starting to question my decision to take this job, especially since I was laid off last September and felt pressured to accept any offer. I’m considering whether it’s reasonable to keep looking for other opportunities if this pattern continues. I think I need to have a conversation with my coworker about my availability and the need for a more manageable schedule.
