I’ve been working as a part-time assistant for a CEO for a little over six months now. The job is quite relaxed and pays well, but my tasks mainly revolve around pet care and other menial duties. While I initially accepted this role knowing what it entailed, I’m starting to feel stuck. My job applications haven't been fruitful, and my freelance work isn't yielding the stability I hoped for. We have a meeting scheduled this week, and I've been contemplating whether it would be appropriate to ask about taking on more responsibilities or possibly transitioning into a full-time assistant role. I know he already has an executive assistant, but I’ve learned that he previously had two assistants before downsizing due to both leaving at the same time. I’m anxious about bringing this up, as I don’t want to make things awkward for him, especially since the current executive assistant seems to be managing well. However, I can see that the workload is significant for them. I’m unsure if it’s realistic to ask for a fuller role, but I really want to express my interest in growing within the company. I’m considering saying something like, "I really enjoy working here and would love to explore any growth opportunities that may arise." I hope to approach this conversation without sounding unhappy or demanding. Any advice on how to navigate this would be greatly appreciated.
