I lost my job over the summer and immediately filed for unemployment. The Department of Labor (DOL) required me to print and send in documentation regarding my severance payment, which I did promptly. I even confirmed with them over the phone that they received my paperwork and replied to their email as well. I was approved for about $500 a week, but despite my efforts and timely responses, I never received any payments for four months! I was supposed to get around $8,000 during that time, but instead, I had to deplete my savings because of their inaction. I called the DOL every single day, but I could never get through, and I even reached out to other government offices for help. Thankfully, I managed to secure a new job, but now I'm left wondering if I'm still owed that $8,000 from the DOL. Is that money gone for good? I'm also concerned about the tax implications since it's like I had theoretical income that I never actually received. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
