I graduated in 2023 and worked at a company until January 2024 when I was laid off. I managed to find a new job in June 2024, but unfortunately, they let me go due to a lack of work. Now, I've been unemployed for six months again. I'm currently living with my sister, who is a travel nurse. When I first moved back, I was responsible for most of the bills, but now I'm struggling to keep up. She’s expressed frustration about having to help with bills, and it feels like I'm on the verge of being kicked out. I understand her perspective; she works hard and has done a lot for me. However, I’m actively searching for jobs while working full-time in retail to cover most of the bills. Still, I sometimes have to ask her for help just to afford basic meals. There’s a significant age gap between us, and she’s never experienced unemployment, so she sees my situation as laziness. We recently watched a news segment about new college grads struggling to find work, and she dismissed it, thinking it’s just a matter of not wanting to work. I feel stuck and frustrated, not just with my job search but also with the strain it's putting on my relationship with my sister. I’m considering documenting my job applications and interviews to show her I’m making an effort, but I’m not sure how much that will help. I just want to find stability again and ease the tension at home.

I recently applied for unemployment benefits on May 17 after my hours were significantly reduced at my retail job. I was expecting my first payment by June 4, but it never came through. I realized too late that I had a notice in my inbox asking me to call and provide additional information by June 26. I finally called on June 23, thinking I was still within the timeframe. During the call, I explained my situation, including that I had been fired recently. However, I received a notice stating, "we cannot pay you benefits" because it claimed I did not contact them as requested. I did reach out, so I'm confused and worried about my claim. I'm considering calling again on Monday to clarify the situation. I know I wasn't let go for any misconduct; I was just in a low-traffic area of the store. I'm really anxious about not having a job and needing these benefits.

I recently filed for temporary unemployment after my hours were cut at my retail job in Texas. However, at the end of my shift last Friday, my manager unexpectedly informed me that I was being let go. I was told to leave my badge in the back room and that my final paycheck would be mailed to me. This all happened so suddenly; I initially filed for unemployment due to reduced hours, but now I’m unsure if I need to change my application since I was officially fired. I’ve heard that others in my workplace faced similar situations recently, and it seems like the company has been hiring a lot of new people while letting some of us go. It feels like a big company is cutting corners, and I'm left in a confusing situation. I haven’t received any unemployment payments yet, despite reaching out twice. Now that my employment status has changed, I’m wondering if I need to file a different application or if there’s a specific process I should follow. I guess I’ll just have to wait for a final determination on my case, but I’m feeling pretty lost about what to do next.
