  1. 1

I recently found out that my entire division at a large manufacturing company is being shut down after I survived four rounds of layoffs over the past two years. I received two weeks' notice, which has left me feeling a bit blindsided. The severance package they offered includes one month of severance pay, my annual bonus (which is typically 20% but will be prorated for my 10 months of service this year), and a payout for 1.5 weeks of accrued, unused PTO. I'm currently weighing whether to negotiate for an additional month of severance or just accept what they've offered. I’ve been reading through various opinions and experiences, and it seems like negotiating might not yield much since severance isn't guaranteed in the US. However, I feel like it’s worth asking since the worst they can say is no. I’m particularly curious about how reasonable one month of severance is in a situation like this and if anyone has had success in negotiating better terms. I want to ensure I’m making the right choice before I sign anything, especially regarding the bonus payout. Any insights or advice from those who have been in similar situations would be greatly appreciated!
