I was laid off from my Vice President position at a global bank about a month ago. With 34 years of progressive experience and my CPA credentials, I expected the job search to be smoother. I've been actively applying for positions on Indeed and LinkedIn, and I've also reached out to local headhunters and utilized internal resources at companies I'm interested in. Despite my qualifications, the response has been minimal. One headhunter mentioned they would keep my resume on file, and I had one interview that didn't lead anywhere. Another company reviewed my resume but decided not to move forward with me. I'm honestly shocked at how challenging it has been to secure a new role, even with my background. If this continues, I might have to consider taking a lower-level job just to maintain some income. I've noticed that many others with impressive credentials are facing similar struggles, and it seems like ageism and the high level of my previous position could be factors. I've been advised to focus more on networking and possibly explore contract work or consulting as alternatives. It’s a tough situation, and I’m starting to realize that finding a new job at my level might take much longer than I anticipated.
