  1. 1

I’ve been working at a small company with only four employees for over a year now, and while I don’t hate my job, the hours are incredibly sparse. I’m only getting scheduled once or twice a week, which at $20.60 an hour just isn’t cutting it for my bills. My manager is nice, but she seems to think I can make a career out of this part-time situation, which is unrealistic in this economy. The scheduling is also a nightmare; I have to request time off weeks in advance, making it hard to manage any personal plans. Recently, I received an amazing job offer for a luxury position with much better pay and a flexible schedule. The interviewer loved me and wants me to start this weekend, but my current schedule is set until August 1, and I feel trapped. I really want to quit and take the new job, but I’m worried about leaving my coworkers in a tough spot since we’re already stretched thin. I’ve considered calling out, but I can’t do that for the next few weekends without causing issues. I’m stuck between wanting to prioritize my own career and feeling guilty about leaving my team behind. I’m seeking advice on how to handle this situation, as I really want to make the leap to the new opportunity.
