I recently got laid off and now I'm back to the job hunt grind. It took me about fifteen days to process the whole situation. I had a strong attachment to my previous role, and now I’m facing the reality of losing my paycheck and relying on my savings while I search for a new job. I feel overwhelmed with the need to interview and network again, especially in this tough job market. Reflecting on my past, I wish I had focused more on developing marketable skills, kept my resume updated, and consistently applied for jobs. Instead, I got caught up in personal issues, like my gallbladder problems and a long-term relationship that recently ended. After ten years, my partner expressed boredom and questioned what I would do alone, which was a tough pill to swallow. I realize now that I should have proactively prepared for the possibility of being laid off. I worked hard for my organization but didn’t branch out or create a solid backup plan. I was burned out and didn’t prioritize leaving a potentially unstable job. Now, I’m left with no interviews lined up and feeling uncertain about the next six months. On the bright side, I’ve managed to organize my home, cook, clean, and maintain a daily meditation practice. I’m focusing on self-care and even considering taking up a sport or restarting piano lessons. But deep down, I know I need to treat this job search like a full-time job. I need to time block my days and stay disciplined in my search. I’ve realized that I can’t rely on others for emotional support or validation. It’s crucial to focus on self-love and self-respect instead. I’m determined to push through this challenging time and not let my past mistakes hold me back. It’s time to grind and make the necessary changes to get back on track.
