I recently received a call from a recruiter at Collabera, and I'm feeling uncertain about the legitimacy of the opportunity. The recruiter mentioned they were hiring for KPMG, specifically looking for around 100 new graduates. However, during our conversation, his English was quite broken, making it difficult to understand him. He explained that there would be a four-week training period starting at the end of the month, with the first two weeks being unpaid and the last two weeks paying $14 an hour. At the end of the training, I would need to give a presentation to representatives from both KPMG and Collabera. After that, the contract would start at $22 per hour for the first year, increasing to $24 for the second year. A red flag for me is the clause stating that if I cancel the contract early, I would be charged $5,000. I expressed interest in the position, but then received a follow-up message about exciting changes, stating they were now looking for a permanent full-time role. I'm leaning towards thinking this might be a scam, but I haven't shared any personal information yet, so I'm just keeping my guard up for now.
