I recently interviewed for a tech position that was a bit outside my usual expertise, focusing on embedded systems rather than my typical server-side work. I prepared extensively and felt confident going into the interview. The skip interviewer even expressed a strong gut feeling that I was the right candidate. I performed well on the coding questions, even though C isn't my strongest language, and I handled the behavioral questions effectively too. After waiting for three long weeks, I received a generic rejection message from the recruiter stating that they chose candidates with more experience. This news hit me hard, and I’m feeling incredibly disappointed. It's been tough to shake off this feeling of failure, and I'm worried about my mental health as I find myself spiraling into a depressive state. I know I need to move on, but it's difficult to see the next steps clearly. I'm reaching out for advice on how to cope and regain my momentum in the job search.

Today, I learned that Meta has laid off 7,000 employees, which is a significant reduction in their workforce. They implemented a work-from-home policy before sending out layoff emails, seemingly to avoid any office drama. The severance package being offered is quite generous, including 4 months of pay plus 2 weeks for every year of service, along with 18 months of healthcare coverage. Some comments noted that while this is a good deal for many, contractors likely won't receive any severance, which is really tough. There's a lot of discussion around the failure of the Metaverse and how AI is replacing jobs, with some expressing confusion about the direction Zuckerberg is taking the company. Overall, it's a brutal situation for those impacted, and I can't help but feel for my former colleagues.
