I am currently facing a tough decision between two job opportunities. The first option is a signed 6-month contract with a local government job in my city, which is only a 10-minute commute. However, it comes with no benefits and slightly lower pay. The schedule is three days on-site, but there’s a potential to convert to a full-time position once it opens up, which could lead to a long-term career there. The second option is a final round interview for a full-time role at a startup. This position offers better pay, a more prestigious title, and a flexible schedule with two days in the office (one-hour commute each way) and three days remote. I plan to inquire about the work/life balance during the interview to get a better understanding of the environment. I feel conflicted because I am married and we are planning to start a family soon, which makes this decision even more significant.
