I’m currently based in NYC and have been struggling to land interviews in a highly competitive job market. This year alone, I've applied to around a thousand jobs, but I've only managed to secure five interviews. Out of those, only three were through my own efforts, while two were thanks to a friend. After each interview, I've left feeling like I could have performed better. The interviewers have all been kind and professional, but I sense that I've stumbled in my responses. I realize that I might be too eager to please during these interviews, often agreeing with everything they say out of desperation for a job. For instance, when asked if the salary aligns with my expectations, I tend to say yes even if it doesn’t, fearing that negotiating might turn them off. Additionally, I’m a dual citizen of the USA and another country, and I have a slight accent. I often find myself preemptively assuring interviewers that my citizenship won't be an issue, even though they can't legally ask about it. My resume is well-structured, but my work history is quite varied, spanning different industries like tech, hospitality, and fashion. This diversity makes it challenging to market myself effectively, and I often find myself stumbling over my words and sounding apologetic, which undermines my confidence. I’m really seeking advice on how to improve my interview performance and present myself more confidently. What strategies would you recommend?
