I recently had a concerning experience with a job interview that turned out to be a scam. I received an email about an 'IT Analyst' position, and since I had applied to so many jobs, I couldn't recall if I had applied to this one. I went ahead and set up an interview, which took place over Teams. During the interview, they only communicated through chat, which I now recognize as a major red flag. After the interview, I received an email stating I got the job, which was another warning sign. In the email, there was a PDF attachment. I didn't download it, but I did view it in the preview feature. Upon reviewing it, I noticed several alarming inconsistencies: the job title was incorrect, the salary offer didn't match what was advertised, and the start date had already passed. Fortunately, I did not provide them with my Social Security Number or banking information, but I did share my resume and certifications. Now I'm left wondering if I'm at risk for identity theft or if I can just chalk this up to a lesson learned and move on. The comments I received were mixed, with some saying I should be fine since I didn't give them critical information, while others suggested I might be in trouble. It's been a stressful situation, and I'm still processing it.
