Today was a tough day for me. I was let go from my position as a receptionist at a company where I had been working through a temp agency for the past four months. I had a conversation about my tardiness a couple of months ago and made an effort to improve. I thought I was doing well since I hadn’t received any complaints since then. Just this morning, I even spoke with the HR manager about taking Wednesday off for a doctor’s appointment, and she assured me it would be fine. However, later in the day, I received a call from the temp agency informing me that my assignment was being ended early. Apparently, the HR manager checked my time card and noticed I was 9 minutes late last Wednesday, which led to my termination. This isn’t the first time I’ve faced issues with punctuality; I was also let go from a barista job for similar reasons. I feel really defeated and embarrassed right now. It’s hard to accept that I might not be cut out for early morning shifts, and I’m disappointed in myself. I’ve been thinking about going back to school for a while now, and maybe this is a sign that I should finally take that step. I just wish waking up early was as simple as some people make it sound. I have multiple alarms, but it still doesn’t work for me. Feeling pretty low at the moment, but I know I need to figure out my next steps.
