I’ve been with my company for nearly 10 years, consistently receiving good reviews and excelling in my role. However, everything changed this past April when my boss, whom I had a great relationship with for five years, decided to leave. Now we have a new boss with a higher title and more direct reports, but the directives and expectations are vague and poorly communicated. This lack of clarity has left me and my coworkers confused about our long-term roles. It seems like many responsibilities from my previous boss are now falling on me and a colleague, without any additional compensation. I suspect that I am one of many remote employees left after a merger, and the company has been gradually letting go of remote workers. It feels like they are slowly phasing out remote positions while building up their in-office workforce. I have this nagging feeling that I might be training my replacement while being set up to fail due to unclear goals. I could probably stay at this job for another year or two, but I think it’s time to update my resume and start looking for new opportunities. It’s frustrating to feel this way after so many years of stability.
