I've been unemployed for the past 6 months, and I'm feeling lost. I’m a CPA-eligible, ACCA-qualified accountant with over 5 years of experience, but since being let go in February 2026, I haven't been able to find a new job. I was fired for what they called "poor job performance," but the truth is that the entire situation was systemic. I was still working on the June 2025 financials when I was terminated because the company had no deadlines. They hired me to improve processes, but every time I suggested a better way to do things, it backfired. They nitpicked my work and discouraged any independent thinking, telling me to just follow their outdated methods. The company was completely paper-based, and I was unable to implement any changes that could have helped me succeed. This lack of structure ultimately led to my dismissal, which I feel was unfair. To make matters worse, I reapplied to my previous employer after almost 3 years there, but they rejected me for an open position. I’ve also reached out to former bosses who I left on good terms, but they haven’t responded. I’ve been aggressively applying for jobs for the last 6 months, and my unemployment benefits are set to run out in August. I get excited about interviews, but I keep hearing that decisions will be made later or I just don’t hear back at all. My confidence is really shaken, and I'm starting to lose hope. I could really use some advice on how to navigate this job market with a termination on my record, and whether there’s something I might be missing in my job search. Is this just a rough stretch, or am I doing something wrong?
