Sqiffymarlin's journey

After 8 months of searching, I finally landed a job in the food industry. I was excited, especially since I was the only one in my alcohol safety class who passed. However, I faced a lot of challenges in my new role. I felt like I was judged unfairly based on my ethnicity and the assumptions people made about my abilities. I started working in a busy kitchen, doing both back house and front house tasks, including working the cashier kiosk. On my third day, during a hectic shift, my coworker walked out, and I was pressured to teach battering techniques, which I wasn't fully comfortable with yet. I thought I was doing well, as I hadn't made any mistakes during my training and was keeping up with the kitchen flow. However, I felt like I was shut down at the last minute when I was still trying to learn. I reached out to my boss to ask for feedback on how I could improve, but if I don't receive a reasonable response, I might have to move on and start the job search all over again. It's disheartening to realize that even nepotism doesn't guarantee success in this job market.
