I recently found myself in a tough situation at my job as a Mid-Market Account Executive. I've been with the company for about six months now, and when I started, I was told I would be managing 70-80 accounts with plenty of room for growth. The first three months were meant for ramping up, where I was supposed to learn the products through training materials and shadow experienced colleagues. However, during this time, I was instructed not to reach out to my accounts since a new fiscal year was starting in July, and the entire team would be reassigned new accounts. After the kickoff event at the end of July, I discovered that instead of the promised 70-80 accounts, I was only assigned 30. The company had hired over 400 new sales and support roles, which I suspect contributed to the decision to cut our account books in half. Now, I've been working with my assigned accounts for three months, but the reality is that I’m struggling. The leadership expects each rep to generate $175k per week solely from our own efforts, which feels impossible given that 11 of my accounts are owned by a higher-level rep who won't make purchasing decisions, and four are non-profits that offer steep discounts. Out of my 30 accounts, only 7 are engaging with me, and I have just 2 solid opportunities. My manager recently told me that I am below expectations and has given me until the end of November to meet the unrealistic goal of generating $175k per week and closing two $75k deals. It feels like I'm under constant scrutiny, and I can't even create new opportunities without my manager listening in on every call. I’m feeling defeated and overwhelmed, and I know that if things don’t change, I’ll likely be out of a job by December. I updated my resume and am starting to look for new opportunities, but the job market feels bleak right now. The feelings of worthlessness and failure are really weighing on me.
