I recently learned a tough lesson through a family member's experience with a layoff. They were let go from their job while on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP), which I believe was unjustified. This was their first time facing a layoff, and in a moment of panic, they signed an agreement for a minimal severance package. What they didn't realize was that the back page of the document was a resignation letter addressed to an executive at the company. It's shocking how this can happen, and it raises questions about the legality of such practices. I can't stress enough how important it is to read every detail before signing anything. Now, they are dealing with the implications for unemployment benefits, and it's a hard lesson learned.
